Gigging The Rawbox
I intend to begin spotlighting an upcoming or current publication or anthology which features one of my stories. The first I've chosen is Scotopia Press' Dark Distortions Volume One.
This trade paper back collection of horror fiction includes my novelette Gigging The Rawbox, a surreal rocknroll-social satire-horror fable.
It's the story of Val, has-been alternative rocker and one hit wonder princess, still reeling from the bus accident that killed both her band mates and her career. But really, what is fame? And how far will one woman go to control her own destiny in a world dominated by media worship? Dark Distortions Volume One is available for pre-order here.
"Gigging the Rawbox by Lorne Dixon is a standout here. Told in segments, a woman battles the traumatic loss of her bandmates in a tragic van crash, her own aging, the short attention span of the people around her, and the call of artistry versus the demands of motherhood. Add in a conspiracy of rock and roll religion, and the darkly fueled spirit of a woman who leaves her child with a sick, aging grandmother to chase the lost glory of her former years, and you get a complex plot that keeps the reader engaged and sympathetic, despite the main character’s flaws. One of the most human stories in this anthology, it examines the darkness of the human soul without needing to go to extremes."

Welcome
You've found the repository of my thoughts, updates on publications, movie and book reviews, ranks, and really whatever I chose to cram inside. To the initiated, I give you my official bio:
Lorne Dixon lives and writes somewhere off an Exit of Route 78 in residential New Jersey. I grew up on a diet of yellow-spined paperbacks, black and white monster movies, and the thunder lizard backbeat of rock n' roll.
Maybe you've already read that. Probably not. My job is to make sure you see much more of it in the years to come. My fiction has appeared in Dark Tome, The Nocturnal Lyric, Words Of Wisdom, Creation's Edge, White Knuckles, widow of the orchid, www.house-of-pain.com, Dark Notes From New Jersey, Nocturnal Ooze, +The Horror Library+ Volume Two, and Bad-Ass Faeries.
March- just a few scant days from today, brings four anthologies, each with new stories:
Boek Van Namen, a short horror story, in Bound For Evil (Dead Letters Press).
Gigging The Rawbox, a rocknroll-social satire-horror novelette, in Dark Distortions Volume One (Scotopia Press)
Screech Owl Serenade, a short horror story, in Lilith Unbound (Popcorn Press)
Beach Moths, a midnight-dark science fiction story, in Strange Stories Of Sand And Sea (Fine Tooth Press)
Additional 2008 story appearances include stories in Book Of Dark Wisdom magazine, Tales Of Moreauvia magazine (UK), Traps, Our Shadows Speak Volume Two, and Speculative Realm.
Early 2009 will see the release of Editor Harrison Howe's Darkness On The Edge from PS Press, a collection of dark short stories inspired by the music of Bruce Springsteen. This anthology will include work from a large number of the horror genre's most popular and engaging talents. It also will feature one of my stories, Kneeling In The Darkness.
I'm currently working my way through the second draft of my first novel, Disorder.
More news as... frankly, I remember it...
